TITLE: Building Custodian

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Evidence of good physical condition and mental attitude
2. Demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities
3. Possess a working knowledge of basic skills in electricity and carpentry

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the physical plant so as to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive comfortable, and clean place in which to teach, learn and develop.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat, clean and safe.

2. Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning system to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity when directed by the principal.

3. Shovels, sweeps, and/or salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as appropriate.

4. Checks daily to insure that all exit doors designated by the principal are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.

5. Raises the United State flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:15 p.m.

6. Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture, fixtures, window sills, and other areas where dust may collect.

7. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.

8. Scrubs, cleans, and disinfects toilet floors, stools, urinals and lavatories and locker rooms daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

9. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least once each year, and more frequently if necessary.

10. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish and broken glass.

11. Performs such yardkeeping chores as grass trimming and mowing as necessary to maintain the school grounds in an attractive condition.

12. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.

13. Makes minor building repairs as directed by principal.

14. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the principal.

15. Maintains a regular schedule for all motors requiring first echelon scheduled service.

16. Reports immediately to the principal any damage to the school property.

17. Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during nonschool hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance is required by the principal, except during scheduled lunch period.

18. Assumes responsibilities for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.

19. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and requests such needed replacements from the principal or maintenance staff far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties.

20. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.

21. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.

22. Replace all broken windows which consist of 650 sq. in. or less. Custodian will measure the window and report replacement size needed to the Administration Building. The Maintenance Coordinator will supply the custodian with necessary tools and materials.

23. Reports immediately to principal any indication of burglary or forced entry.

24. Cleans all entrance, hallway and classroom doors as needed.

25. Completes summer cleaning program in preparation for the opening of school.

26. Completes other duties and assignments made or directed by the principal.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1. Twelve months
2. Vacation contingent upon time employed by the district
