TITLE: Classroom Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Has a minimum of a bachelor's degree.
2. Has or is eligible for appropriate state certification.
3. Has a college major or minor in the teaching area or has an elementary education major.
4. Special training in one or more of the areas of Learning Disabilities, Gifted, Reading, or Educable Mentally Handicapped is desirable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide the best learning experiences possible by utilizing the curriculum, materials, facilities, and imagination of both self and the Board of Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implements the District 135 curriculum, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.

2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

3. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

4. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.

5. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

6. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers
7. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

8. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids, maintains required inventory records.

9. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

10. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.

11. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

12. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

13. Promotes a positive public relations program.

14. Cooperates with program coordinators.

1. Employed for school year
2. Employed as per conditions established by the Board of Education.
